About Nettlestead
Nettlestead is a small rural parish in the Maidstone borough of Kent, lying on the north bank of the River Medway between Yalding and Wateringbury. Fewer than a thousand people live here, in a landscape that is still largely orchard, hop garden and grazing marsh.
The parish church of St Mary the Virgin dates from the thirteenth century and is known for its unusually tall fifteenth-century windows. Much of the low-lying land sits within the Medway flood plain, which shapes both what can be built here and how the parish plans for winter.
