Nettlestead Parish Council is the data controller for this website. The Clerk is the contact point: clerk@nettlesteadpc.gov.uk.
The short version
This site has no analytics, no advertising, no social media buttons and no third-party scripts of any kind. Loading a page here contacts this website and nothing else. Nobody is profiling you, and no data about your visit is shared with another company.
That is unusual enough to be worth stating plainly, and it is checkable: open your browser's developer tools, look at the network tab, and count the requests that leave this domain. There are none.
What is stored on your device
- Your display preferences. If you change the text size or switch to
dark mode, that choice is saved in your browser's local storage under
beacon-fontandbeacon-theme. It never leaves your device and is not sent to us. Clearing your browsing data removes it. - A sign-in cookie, for the Clerk only. If you sign in to administer the site, one cookie holds a random session token. It is marked HttpOnly, SameSite and Secure, and it is deleted when you sign out. Residents browsing the site are never given a cookie.
Because we set no cookies for ordinary visitors, there is no cookie banner. That is the reason there isn't one, rather than an oversight.
What we collect
- Email updates. If you sign up, we store your email address and the date you signed up, and nothing else. The lawful basis is your consent, and you can withdraw it at any time by asking the Clerk. We do not pass it to anyone.
- Server logs. The web server records the address of each request, the page asked for, the time, and your browser's user-agent string. Your IP address is personal data. These logs exist to keep the site working and secure — the lawful basis is legitimate interests — and they are not used to build any profile of you.
- Anything you send the Clerk. Correspondence is kept as council business under the council's own retention schedule.
How long we keep it
Email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Server logs are kept for a short operational period and then rotated away. Council records, including correspondence, follow the retention schedule the council has adopted.
Who processes it
The site is hosted by TrueCore Hosting, which acts as a data processor on the council's instructions. Data is held in the United Kingdom.
Some pages show information published by other organisations — the Environment Agency, the Met Office, the police, the NHS. That information is fetched by this server and served to you from here. Your browser does not contact those organisations, and they do not learn that you visited this site.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to how we use it. Contact the Clerk. We will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with our response you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, which regulates data protection in the UK.
