ℹ️ Winter flood preparation — grit bins and sandbags

Ahead of winter the Council reviews the parish flood plan and checks the three grit bins. Residents in the low-lying part of the parish can request sandbags through Maidstone Borough Council. Live flood warnings for this area are shown at the top of this page automatically, direct from the Environment Agency.

🏃 Speedwatch

The Nettlestead Community Speedwatch group monitors traffic speeds at agreed locations on Maidstone Road and Pilgrims Way, using equipment provided through Kent Police.

Volunteers work in teams of three and record the registrations of vehicles exceeding the limit; Kent Police then write to the registered keeper. Speedwatch does not issue fines and has no enforcement powers, but it demonstrably reduces average speeds where it operates.

New volunteers are always needed. Training is provided and takes one evening.
